Washington, D.C. – Days before the historic 2016 election, The Spectrum Group’s Evelyn Suarez moderated a panel of experts discussing “Why Trade Matters” at A GLOBAL TRADE AGENDA FOR THE 45TH PRESIDENT, a conference hosted by the Virginia-Washington, D.C. District Export Council, GW-CIBER and the Association of Women in International Trade.
The panel’s discussion focused on on the role of trade in global economic growth and what needs to change in terms of policy and keeping the workforce competitive and flexible. Suarez framed these issues with respect to U.S. trade policy and enabled insights into the kinds of challenges that the new Administration will need to address. Issues covered included: micro-and macro-economic impacts of trade; benefits of global trade for small and medium businesses; trade-adjustment assistance; and work-force training and retraining.
Panelists included: John Reinhart, CEO and Executive Director, Port of Virginia; Julie Stitzel, Senior Manager – Federal Advocacy & Policy, Etsy; Kazuhiro Suzuki, Minister for Economic Affairs, Embassy of Japan in the U.S.; Amb.
