PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Mr. Griffith supports clients in nuclear energy domains with deep expertise gained in his 40-year career as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Navy nuclear energy professional.

Prior to joining The SPECTRUM Group, Mr. Griffith served in several key leadership roles in the U.S. DOE Office of Nuclear Energy, culminating in his presidential appointment as Acting Assistant Secretary of Nuclear Energy. There, he led implementation of key nuclear energy research, development, demonstration, and deployment programs, the office’s $1.8B annual budget, and initiation of the $6B Civil Nuclear Credit program to preserve existing U.S. nuclear power plants not previously receiving appropriate credit for low carbon energy generation.

Mr. Griffith worked primarily in DOE nuclear energy fuel cycle programs, including developing accident-tolerant fuel for existing nuclear reactors, advanced fuel development and fuel supply for a new generation of nuclear reactors, nuclear energy infrastructure management, nuclear safeguards and nonproliferation, and used nuclear fuel interim storage, disposition, and recycling initiatives. Mr. Griffith also led advancement of next-generation reactor demonstrations and reactor technology risk reduction programs.

Prior to joining the U.S. DOE, Mr. Griffith served in the U.S. nuclear submarine force. He continued serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve throughout his DOE service, retiring at the rank of Captain, and is Submarine and Engineering Department Head Qualified.
